A bit
about me:
Dr. Malea Jensen
is a national level bodybuilder who has been competing since 1996. She has participated in a number of prestigious national
competitions including the 2000 USA, as well as the 2000 and 2001 Team Universe. Dr. Jensen has won competitions including
the 1999 Heartland Classic and 1999 NPC Midstates Muscle Classic XII.
Malea got into
weight lifting when she was in high school to get stronger for basketball and softball. She admits that she was a much smaller
version of what she has attained today. Since that first time in the weight room, throwing around heavy weights has grown
to be a passion for her. She remembers that Tonya Knight had been one of her girlhood heroes with her feminine lines and rippling
muscles. Malea hopes to keep the sport of female bodybuilding feminine. She admits she has a strong will and drive to persevere.
Dr. Jensen is
originally from Spencer, Iowa. She completed her undergraduate training at Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa. Dr. Jensen attended
medical school at the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences, Des Moines, Iowa. She then went on to complete
a Family Practice Residency program in Des Moines, Iowa. She is currently employed for the Iowa Health System in Des Moines,
where she is a practicing family physician.
In her spare
time, Malea enjoys training clients 4-5 days a week, writing articles for e-zines, and traveling. She finds extreme gratitude
in helping others achieve a healthy lifestyle. She has also been involved in helping well-known female bodybuilders achieve
their goals. She cites Colette Nelson as an up and coming female bodybuilder who has the passion to turn the sport around.
Colette has already taken the Heavyweight class at the 2001 USA and hopes to go back and take the whole show in 2002. Colette's
aspirations are to be Ms. Olympia, and Malea believes that Colette has the full package to do just that!
Past Acheivements:
Jr nationals in Chicago June 18 and 19. I got 7th in the Light-heavyweight
